About Milo's House

Milo's House Preschool Literacy is a unique learning environment for children aged 3-6 years. It is a multi-sensory phonemic awareness/phonics based program where children come together in small groups to have fun, learn to recognise the sounds of the alphabet and the links between reading, writing, and spelling.

The Milo's House Preschool Literacy program uses the successful 'Little Learners Love Literacy Program' created by Maureen Pollard. It is developed from evidence-based research with explicit activities to engage children's interest while teaching phonemic awareness and phonic skills to learn to read and write. For more information visit littlelearnersloveliteracy.com.

Milo's House is run by an enthusiastic and engaging school teacher and literacy tutor, Fiona Antonopoulos. Milo the Monkey is the main character and he welcomes everyone to his 'house'.

Children at Milo's House

Children LOVE the program as they can't wait to see who Milo invites to his house next.

Parents LOVE the program as they see their children develop confidence, a love of learning, and exposure to literacy concepts.

Our classes are run in small groups so the children feel relaxed, and receive individual focus and attention.

All our teachers are qualified and highly trained, holding current Victorian Institute of Teaching cards.

Fiona's extensive teaching career includes 15 years at one of Melbourne's leading independent schools, Tintern Girls Grammar School. Her experience in classroom teaching and early literacy development has shaped the unique approach at Milo's House, where children are supported as individuals and encouraged to learn at their own pace.

Supported by a team of dedicated educators who share her passion for early literacy, Fiona is committed to creating a nurturing environment where children feel confident, capable, and excited about learning.

Above all, Fiona feels privileged to be part of each child's early learning journey and to support families as they build strong foundations for lifelong literacy success.

Alexis

Teacher Assistant

Alexis is a passionate and dedicated VCE student with a strong aspiration to become a primary school teacher. Her connection with Milo's House is a particularly special one — Alexis was one of our very first students when Milo's House began in 2015!

With a natural ability to connect with children, Alexis is a warm, enthusiastic and trusted presence at Milo's House. She has volunteered during her high school years and now assists during Saturday classes under the guidance of our qualified teaching team and contributes to our holiday programs, where she enjoys supporting group activities and building strong relationships with the children, who absolutely adore her!

Alexis has embraced opportunities to develop her skills by attending Little Learners Love Literacy online professional learning sessions, expanding her understanding of evidence-based literacy practices and early literacy development.

The Milo's House team feels incredibly fortunate to have Alexis as part of our learning community. From being one of our very first students in 2015 to now supporting the next generation of Milo's House children, her journey is something we are incredibly proud of. We look forward to watching her continue to grow, complete her VCE studies, pursue her qualifications in Primary Education and, one day, share her passion as a qualified educator.
